I’m not a hoarder by nature… well not really! Okay, I admit to hanging on to some of my kids baby clothes, and yes they are both now adults with children of their own, but hey, a small suitcase hardly takes up any room! And my wedding dress? You truly expect me to part with that? Or any single one of my hundreds of books?
So, with a few notable exceptions, we are biting the bullet and shedding our just in case things. It’s something we really should have done when selling our fully-furnished rental and exchanging our four bed home in the countryside for a two and a half bed city apartment. Not knowing what the future might hold we filled a storage container with bits and pieces of furniture and furnishings, not to mention gardening tools, stereo equipment, building supplies and other miscellaneous paraphernalia which, for the past few weeks, we have been systematically selling off.
At this point you are expecting me to tell you just how freeing, how liberating the entire experience has been.
Well, I’m sorry to disappoint but it has been anything but. It is stressful!! Very stressful indeed! And made even more so by a husband who has approached the entire process with unabated glee, as if he’d been waiting years to do this. Of course I did start out with enthusiasm. But now the won’t ever need that again pile has gone he’s wanting to dispose of the don’t need it, but can’t bear to part with it stuff.
And that is proving a tad contentious!
