With our next official housesit still a few days away we are camping at our son's, and so a little short on comfort since there’s not a stick of furniture in the place! Luckily we kept the basics ready for our return, and by that I mean two large bean-bags, a tiny fridge, and half a dozen wine glasses. On top of that, there’s a very stylish corner bath we have been filling with bubbles and relaxing in most nights, with of course scented candles for just the right ambiance. And without a washing machine I revisited my flatting days (Portsmouth, in my early twenties) and washed our clothes in a Laundromat. I have to say I was very impressed! Took half the usual time to complete two washes, including drying, and the place was spotlessly clean.
So, given we were keen to see the physical changes of being on a remote island for three and a half months, what was the outcome of our experience? Sadly, my nails have already softened again, but on the upside I dropped a little over seven kilos (sixteen pounds) while Jas lost ten (twenty-two pounds). It doesn’t mean a whole new wardrobe for me though, since the cargo pants and Levi 501’s that are now too big for him have been handed down to me and fit perfectly, as does most of what I’ve been hording for the last years in the hope I would one day get back into it. All I need now is for certain styles to come back into fashion and I’ll be laughing!
